Hate and unconstitutional thinking taking over

I know, nobody wants to talk about politics and that‘s not what I‘m here to do. 
There was a pretty defining vote in one of the Bundesländer of Germany and the results are… Well, today I am ashamed to be German.

I do not get why people vote for a party that is officially deemed "right-wing extremist“ and wants to destroy the pillars of democracy for personal profits and ideologies. 
Sorry to dampen the mood, but as someone that needs the world to stay open minded, I worry. I cried this morning and I fear for the future. My sense of justice screams for me to get away while I am to start my six years of university soon. The future seems to be a Germany where I do not want to live and right now I honestly do not know what to do.

How do you deal with the world getting more hateful and narrow-minded? What helps you to see things in perspective (preferably a perspective that doesn‘t make me weep)?

    I wonder if it actually is?

    I remember division and unrest in my country all my life.

    I remember gay people being beaten and killed and people who don't look the same as me, being vilified and attacked in my younger years (60s/70s/80s) - skinhead culture/National Front.

    Abuse, certainly spoken, is much less rife than when I was young.

    Sexism was terrible also when I was young.

    I'd be interested if there are some stats on this.

    Germany post WWII suppressed the far right for decades.

    It created a much more accepting culture so I think perhaps the changes are more acute for  you in your society.

    I feel like things were getting better until Corona hit, the Ukraine got attacked and Trump was voted president two times. Probably because economics were better than (nobody seems to understand that it is normal for economics to go through recession from time to time…). And since then the AfD (the far right-wing party) gained votes, younger folks (and this can be backed up by multiple stats over the years) moved towards the right again and now 43% of voters between 18 and 24 voted for a party that was publicly and officially deemed extremist. 
    But of course I speak from a Europe and especially Germany-centered point of view.

    There have certainly been a lot of changes from Coronavirus onwards and many of these have involved using the resources of countries for things that were unplanned. I think it is very difficult for any leader to budget for the country's spending when money is being used on unexpected things. Sometimes when people vote I am not sure they look at the whole picture.

    I think we have to try to find positives in our lives, even small things, as we have very little influence on world affairs. There are some who post on here that are good at that.
