Music as sanity in , increaslininly insane world

  1. I have being learning to play an acoustic guitar recently, i have found i am picking up chords in . Just by playing along to my favourite music. There something special about learning a new skill. Or reaquring an old one. Music is my sanity, where my mind stops racing, where i brainstorm, about ideas i am going to write in my novel.
  2. It has always helped and i know that as long as i have music round me, my mindset will remain great.

  • I find music essential as both escape and means of relaxation, and as background.

Trouble is I seemed always to avoid what other people listened to.....right through growing up as well as since. So that didn't help me socialise, as I didn't have any common ground, although I also think I avoided the popular because social difficulties meant I was always bound to get things wrong. It was easier to avoid current music.

In reality I can listen to just about everything - well not absolutely - some things like overly loud background music in shops agitates me.

But for someone much affected by complex noise, I've always found complex music more absorbing. Simple tunes didn't register - I'd put something on and not register it happening. I will listen to a lot of very modern, electronic or experimental music, with weird sounds and loud noises quite happily - yet I don't like crowded noisy shops, malls or venues.

for example I've long been fascinated by Roberto Gerhard's music....the sound world, with its Catalan references, is really beneficial. Doubt many others would agree.

I cannot play any instruments - tried piano, couldn't coordinate.
