I think this might have been covered before, but .. I found some recipes for toast toppers, which are sadly no longer on sale. The nearest dish is Welsh rarebit but toast toppers have a nice spicy kick.

Have you any favourite retro dish - either stuff you can buy or ones that no longer exist? Does anyone remember Sainsbury's breakfast slices which were a long oblong tasting of bacon?

    Steak and kidney or offal anything

    Boiled cabbage and carrots or boiled any veg except potatoes

    Semolina, lumpy custard etc

    The absence of ready meals and my mother having to walk to butchers and vegetable shops and work hard to produce meals created vastly less variety.

    I'd much rather have todays choice, especially with ready meals, vegetarianism and the fact that 'foreign' food is much more the thing.
