For the past few years I've been becoming more and more worried that anything that I come across and read might be AI. I'll start analysing the sentence structures and stuff.. and like as soon as my brain suspects that AI has been used, I just have this sense of discomfort and distrust when reading it... cuz like idk I just REALLY hate AI being used to write articles or books or just anything, really.. It has no personality, it writes in the same style all the time, and you can't trust any fact it gives you, cuz it might have just made it up!
I've been especially annoyed lately because I've been looking around for resources related to autism (particularly unmasking, shutdowns, and burnout), but seemingly like 90% of the stuff I find, my brain will flag as "oh this looks like AI" and I just instantly hate it. It's not just online articles either, I do the same with books. Like I'll look at the preview pages or the description or the reviews for any indication that it was made with AI..
I think in my head reading AI generated text is just like an entirely different concept to reading human written text or something? Like when im reading human written text, its a form of communication. The author is communicating their ideas or facts or stories or whatever to me. Theres people involved, and I can trust the text as much as i can trust the human. But when its AI generated.. It's just from a computer. The lifeless machine used its complex maths algorithms to generate plausible sounding text. It stops being communication to me. It's like reading my laptop's settings. Sure, it tells me stuff. But its just a machine outputting its data. And AI is even worse because that output is meant to look like something it is not: communication!
Sorry, I think this has basically turned into a rant at this point lol
Does anyone else feel this way?
P.S. If anyone knows of any good books about autism and/or ADHD that you are confident weren't written using AI, please lmk, thanks!
