So I organised thr models I'd built very neatly and something still seem d off so I split them down the middle and paintes the bases red or blue( as I had two models that I had messed the paint up so bad on I went fully red and fully blue) and I reorganized them by colour and feel happier I never thought I had the trait of liking things this organised but I'm guessing tjosenof us with said trait don't all do it with every object? 

Like I find with DVDs or books or cds it's too hard to do as either the space eim storing them in they mess up too easy or categories overlap too much so I'm happier with what ever order for those but my models need to be ordered by coloured base period or genre and unit type 

I also found something out by mistake I wanted all my singstar games to have the white cases like the first few had so inswaoped out some Wii games into ps2 cases and it reminded me of getting ex rebtal titles from block buster that had blue clam shell cases no matter the platform and it's gave me that warm nostalgic feeling 

  • Oh my!  I ordered my CDs by category when I kept them physically. Now they're digital - which means I forget they're there, due to my forgetting things I've stored out of sight. Rolling eyes I order my books by size (I use a unit with moveable shelves to get the maximum space) but it frustrates me when that means I have to split categories between shelves. On the other hand, I can't bear seeing all the wasted space if I have a few books that are tall on a shelf while the rest are short, like paperbacks, so I've learnt to go with what I can cope with best. For me, the compulsion is to use storage space to the maximum AND (if possible) to look tidy and balanced in terms of shape and spacing. If something is in the 'wrong' place, it irritates me until I move it. Mind you, it means if I really want to remember something, I can write it in a piece of papoer and leave it in the middle of a floor, where it irritates the hell out of me until I do it. 

    All of my electronic cables are carefully ordered into wooden boxes with compartments, according to connection type.

    As I've got older though I've learned there has to be limits to it like if it's something ever changing like a DVD collection don't order it too much other wise it can be almost ocd like bit of course this took me too many years to realise 

    I also sometimes stack my food cupboards as if it was a retail shop talking of which I often face up whilst shopping 

  • Your post reminds me of reading how some LIbrarians order their personal books by colour or size - as a change from the library Dewey system they have to use at work. I find great joy in ordering my possessions. Symmetry is very calming - whatever your notion of pattern making!

    I even find my self when I'm looking at my money collection ordering them into an order dimes with dimes shillings with shillings and even organising old pounds coins by type isle of Mann ect

    Patterns are very important to me, too. I often find myself subconciously arranging small items into patterns such as the cherries on a plate.  However, say I was given some buttons and one was bigger or smaller than the rest. Then I would feel uncomfortable with them all not being the same size and probably take the odd button away.  If the buttons were the same size and but different colours that would be fine. However, if 2 buttons had the same colour, I would have to discard one. 

    I often miss the big picture but notice minute details.
