There are lots of books on the theme of small things that bring happiness. What are yours, past, present or imagined? You can have more than three but I was thinking of Desmond's thread!
Here are some of mine:
1. planning a garden project then seeing it through to completion, over weeks or months
2. sitting outside when it's quiet with a cup of tea, watching clouds scud past
3. sliding into bed just after I've just changed the sheets - the scent and the feel of crisp clean cotton
Vintage utilitarian objects that have intrinsic history and happen to also be beautiful.
This is a French blue enamel watering can.
The way it opens at the top via a hinge gives me an inordinate degree of quiet joy.
I love old things too. Ive an old railway spanner embossed with the railway company intials, LMS, its patina is fabulous, I think of all the thousands of times it was used to fix engines, wagons, bits of track, and that time travels me. 
I prefer old tools - using them gives you a feeling for the person using it decades before. I've just bought an old heart-shaped spade at the recycling centre and looking forward to restoring and using it. Thanks for reminding me - I'll pop into the Men's Shed tool stall at the next market day! I love railway history too. Have you been to York railway museim? A wonderful place for a short break, all the Roman history - and also the chocolate shops !
