I watched The Long Walk last night. It is a film adapted from a Stephen King book. I believe they have changed quite a lot of the details though. I don't think this would be everybody's kind of film but I found it fascinating to watch. On the surface it doesn't sound great. It's basically 2 hours of a group of boys walking and swearing at each other. But the psychology of it is fascinating. These boys have volunteered for this walk knowing that only one of them can survive. 100 boys are chosen so therefore 99 of them will die. If they fall behind the pace, they are shot and they keep walking until only one survives. The different ways each boy deals with the difficulties of the long walk is really interesting and watching them root for each other and try to stop each other from dying is fascinating. They want to win, they literally need to win in order to survive. Winning depends on all of the other boys dying, yet they still have that human instinct that makes them want to save others. Has anyone else watched this or read the book?
