Needs Must

In, about, two months time my landline will be history. PlusNet said that to keep it, I must switch to digital landlines. I said no. Digital anything, these days, is bad news.

Having heard the modern revival of CB Radio, I am now all ears.

  • We gave up our landline a few years ago, when we switched to full fibre broadband. We could have transferred our landline phone number to a digital service (VoIP), but decided to just use our mobile phones instead.

I don't miss the landline at all. When calling people who have Apple devices, we make many of our phone calls via Apple's FaceTime app - which doesn't cost anything extra to use, and includes the choice of video or audio calling. Calls over that service are crystal clear, unlike our old, analogue landline.

Mobile phone calls are fine, too. We use Wi-Fi calling (link = Apple article) to supplement the weak mobile signal at home.
