What would you do differently if you were rich?

You could run courses yourself too. Even rich people have to use time wisely!

I would buy an old stone house in the Peak district, a villa in SW Spain, on the coast, and a motor yacht. My wife is an Irish citizen, so we could live in Spain as long as we liked. I would ensure my children were well provided for and I would set up a scholarship to help autistic students at my old university.

I would buy a bungalow in rural wales and use my time to help others it would give me purpose it’s a win win for all and do arts and crafts. Go on cooking course holidays.

I wouldn't work and I would do a lot of spa days. 

• I would arrange for an architect and landscape gardener to help me design and to build a new home, made from natural and sustainable materials where possible, in grounds affording total privacy. It would be lovely to be in the countryside but not too far from the sea, and perhaps have a village shop within walking distance.
• Employ an assistant to help me with the difficult things and to look after my dogs if I want to be away from home more than four hours at a time.
• A new car.
• Financial donations to organisations which provide animal behaviour and welfare education around the world. Donations also to world organisations promoting women’s (including autistic women) education and advocacy.
• Invest the remaining sum, just enough to cover my financial needs for life.

When it comes to this type of topic I am unsure

I have always wanted to live in a log cabin, on a lake with woodland around it. A newer car would be nice, not new just from this century would be better.

It breaks my heart when I see young people sleeping rough, what happened to them to make sleeping rough better than being home? I would fund a building where each person had their own address and  safe clean apartments. Without an address it’s hard to get a job or claim benefits, yet they need either to get accommodation. Apprenticeships in a trade is a great way of learning when they have often slipped through the school system.

I would like to travel but not with the herd.

An excellent response. I count myself lucky to have a roof, sufficient [at present] pension, food, a quiet area with only a couple of annoying neighbours and resources to entertain myself

These are few in number sadly. Let's hope the upcycled Government acts.

Obviously I'd move house to somewhere with no screaming kids, but I'd stay on the island, I like it here, I'd probably build my own house, something I've always wanted to do, obviously I'm no longer able to build it personally, but I do fancy one of those German Huff houses.

How rich is rich?

I have a family, a roof over my head, never gone to bed hungry and heat when we need it. So I am rich compared to many in the world. 

If I won a million pounds or two I would give my ex the house, move to a fairly modest detached house in a small town I adore about two hours away, only work part time, buy a little boat and go up and down the river if the weather was nice spotting wildlife and help the local community however I could. I would probably buy more food from M&S and try private physiotherapy.

If I was billionaire rich I would probably be even more angry at the worlds injustices. I would buy a section off £5 million in a trust so that my offspring would be looked after no matter what. I would then blow the rest helping try to lift people out of poverty. I'd open up probably loss making businesses in disadvantaged places like Jaywick to try and improve local economies through employment and also make as many homes in boarded up areas across the UK habitable and rent them to the homeless for chickenfeed and some sort of employment opportunity. 

If i was rich i’d buy a house thats set way back from the top of a towering cliff, which has hundreds of mature trees. At the end of the garden i would have stairs which lead underground…these stairs would lead to a room. As you enter the room, directly opposite, would be a massive open window the full width of the room. That window would be in the cliff face. So what would i do if i was rich? I’d get that built, and i would sit down and do nothing except drink excessive amounts of tea, whilst listening to the waves crash against the base of the cliff and the howling wind.  

I'd love to set up a nature reserve and then have a private bird hide so I could go watch wildlife whenever I wanted. And like Marianne, how wonderful to be able to secretly give away to individuals and community projects that needed a boost, and they wouldn't know it was you! 

I would buy myself a nice property in a sheltered complex, in a historic town near a public park, then spend the rest of my life reading, cooking and walking. I would also become a secret philanthropist, giving a little boost to a lot of people. Nothing spectacular! Nice dream..
