Increasing Autism Awareness?

What would you say would be the best way to increase Autism Awareness? 
It seems to me that unless you have been diagnosed yourself or know someone with the condition then that is how you become educated about ASD otherwise you aren’t going to be aware or know much about it, so how could it be increased? Any ideas? 
I personally think that if a famous person who is very highly well known comes out as autistic then it may get the ball rolling and people might ask themselves if they are too on the spectrum? 
What do you all think?xx

  • I think that people need to be more aware that April is Autism Awareness Month as I only knew that it was from social media, however I have an idea of increasing Autism Awareness through marketing such as advertising it on Billboards and Bus Stops but this might be too costly.

    What do you all think about that? Xx

    Billboard or Bell board? As a bellringer, I have tried to get to ring a quarter peal in autism acceptance week, when this has coincided with quarter peal weeks. The nearest I got was the simplest role possible ten days too late. The District President of our diocesan association (I am a member of 26 years and perfectly competent) explained autism- "sort yourself out/not man enough." My need to wear a hat owing to sensory issues is "the height of bad manners." As for my local church, words fail me.

    Maybe you could try wearing a wig and see what he says then? I've never really understood the etiquette around hat wearing, but would someone who had to wear one of those padded hats if they have epilepsy be welcome? What about someone with alopecia, would it be seen as accpetable to wear a wig in church?

    I thought Christian churches were supposed to welcome everyone equally? Where is your Diocesan Presidents Christian Charity, does it only extend to the collection plate?
