Increasing Autism Awareness?

What would you say would be the best way to increase Autism Awareness?
It seems to me that unless you have been diagnosed yourself or know someone with the condition then that is how you become educated about ASD otherwise you aren’t going to be aware or know much about it, so how could it be increased? Any ideas?
I personally think that if a famous person who is very highly well known comes out as autistic then it may get the ball rolling and people might ask themselves if they are too on the spectrum?
What do you all think?xx

  • I think you are right that famous people being diagnosed helps certainly, especially if they talk about it more, like Chris Packham then making the programmes he did about autism.

It can make such a difference in understanding yourself, especially if people are struggling and don't know why, you tend to blame yourself that everyone finds things easy and you don't.

  • The Chris Packham tv programmes are great, he is credible without being a self-serving celeb out for just exposure and being “liked”. I recall he worked with a small group of autistic young adults and  made it possible for them to make short films about whats like to be in their heads. A definite recommendation from me.  ThumbsupThumbsupThumbsup

  • Yeah I saw them! They were really good and he made sure to get a whole range of experiences to show there isn't one profile. He was just trying to give them a platform to be heard.

(Oh and welcome back, I hope your move went well and you are recovered from any stress that might have caused.)
