Increasing Autism Awareness?

What would you say would be the best way to increase Autism Awareness?
It seems to me that unless you have been diagnosed yourself or know someone with the condition then that is how you become educated about ASD otherwise you aren’t going to be aware or know much about it, so how could it be increased? Any ideas?
I personally think that if a famous person who is very highly well known comes out as autistic then it may get the ball rolling and people might ask themselves if they are too on the spectrum?
What do you all think?xx

  • I thought about that as I am in the middle of an accommodation process and it turns out to be the most discriminating, insensitive and chaotic process I have experienced to date. I found that so appalling and destructive that I started looking around in my feeling of helplessness. Hollywood doesn't depict autism well. Youtube doesn't have it well covered either. There is also such a wide range of ways autism can express itself, that I consider myself very lucky with ASD1 to be married and have five kids, function more or less well, having a job and unless one observes me for some time, I would not stick out that much. It is not that I would want to hide it, rather the opposite and I am totally transparent about it. I say that as I emphasize with those on the spectrum that are really disadvantaged and in a way that makes them feel helpless and alone to need help for things I am totally ok with doing on my own.

As for feeling helpless myself, I started a comic about it. Each time something happens to me that makes me feel helpless, I write a story about it. It really helps and it's out in the world and no longer inside of me.
