Why... why did Disney remake Moanna in live action?

I'm genuinely confused about this after seeing the adverts/trailers. Aside from the actors being live action, everything else practically looks the same as the animated version. The fact the animated version was already pushing for a realistic look makes this version seem kinda redundant and pointless...

  • 100% agree, but at least with the hand drawn animated films, you can see the reason why they might try doing those in live action. It actually looks different, and it's fun to imagine how these drawings would look if they were recreated with real people.

It's more the fact that they're taking an animated film where they already pushed for realism and deciding that making it live action but also using similar realistic CG to the animated version for background elements and creatures that doesn't make any sense to me. It literally adds nothing and if anything the fact they have live action footage mixed with the animated elements almost cheapens the experience
