Volunteering

went to a local charity shop and asked for a volunteer form - apparently they don't give a form until after a trial basis

booked in for a trial basis for one hour on Tuesday

I don't know if I'm ready yet to do voluntary work, I just wanted a form so I could see what was what and decide when the right time came

  • I'm finding charity shops to be less and less friendly places to be as a customer and as someone who wants to donate stuff. It's got to be such an enormous hassle I don't bother anymore. A lot of our charity shops are closing down anyway and the shops just stand empty, I don't know why? It used to be the case that charity shops had the space at reduced cost and only had to move out if someone who could pay the full cost moved in. Now empty charity shops have become another feature of our declining high streets

Lack of volunteers as current volunteers age? The charity shops here are booming and often have signs out to say, 'no donations this week.' I'm surprised at charity shops closing, as people are trying to save money. I wonder if it's also the number of people selling stuff online, instead of giving it to charity. Also, many buy online at one of the second-hand outlets like ebay, vinted etc.
