Not looking forward to extreme heat

It is just about reaching as hot as I can bear, towards the upper 20s. If we get extreme heat for a few days I get through it by thinking that it will be over soon. At the moment next week is predicted to be around 30 all week and often the prediction gets higher as it gets closer.

I like to be outside at least some of each day, but I am not sure there will be much that is bearable.

I am hoping they have got it wrong and it reduces sooner than Monday week.

  • It's becoming difficult with gardening. I don't know whether to plant out my newly-grown perennials or leave them in the greenhouse over Winter. Anyone else have this problem? It's getting late in the year for plants to establish and if there's a heatwave there'll be a lot of watering needed.

  • We are fortunate this week with some rain. Yesterday the ground got a good soaking. I put in a new drought resistant perennial the day before. I soaked the hole first, as the ground was very dry underneath. However next week we will need to water. Fortunately the water butts are full, as well as buckets and watering cans ready. The weather has made me rethink and plant more of those plants that coped.
