Not looking forward to extreme heat

It is just about reaching as hot as I can bear, towards the upper 20s. If we get extreme heat for a few days I get through it by thinking that it will be over soon. At the moment next week is predicted to be around 30 all week and often the prediction gets higher as it gets closer.

I like to be outside at least some of each day, but I am not sure there will be much that is bearable.

I am hoping they have got it wrong and it reduces sooner than Monday week.

  • With the New Forest now burning Cry I dearly hope the PM bans disposable BBQs which I read he is considering at today's Cobra meeting.

I have seen distressing footage of ponies running from the fire.

The poor animals being killed by these fires nationwide.

  • There are billions of creatures across the world being incinerated, some at the verge of extinction. Surely politicians will have to act?

  • Globally, wildfire emissions and total area burnt has been less than average this year. Although some areas, like parts of Europe are worse.

It does vary by country and region, due to a number of factors.

Management requires fire breaks, although these can limit nature corridors by creating islands of vegetation.

Also, if rewilding is just a pseudonym for abandonment, unmanaged land is at higher risk of fires. But if the ecosystem is restored with suitable diversity, including the natural grazing animals, with the water cycle restored, if this is possible, then fire risk can be reduced.

I think el nino is having an effect on the weather this year. It always affects global rainfall patterns.
