Not looking forward to extreme heat

It is just about reaching as hot as I can bear, towards the upper 20s. If we get extreme heat for a few days I get through it by thinking that it will be over soon. At the moment next week is predicted to be around 30 all week and often the prediction gets higher as it gets closer.

I like to be outside at least some of each day, but I am not sure there will be much that is bearable.

I am hoping they have got it wrong and it reduces sooner than Monday week.

  • I became overwhelmed this afternoon in the garden. I was trying to rehang washing on the line but the combination of the heat, circa 30 debrees, and nova bright sun set me into a panic, head spinning, light headed, disorientated, etc. I got in as quickly as possible. This prolonged high temperature is giving brain fog too (I prefer the term cognitive impairment but think brain fog is more understood). Once Id drunk lots of water, cooled down inside, grounded myself and rested I recovered quickly. Th8ng is though I hate leaving our home in this, had this happened in the town I wouldn’t have had the things I need to rescue myself.

I'm not an early riser but find it beneficial to set the washing machine for the early hours then hang out the washing as the sun starts to rise. The pulley maid is sited outside my bedroom window - the coolness of drying sheets especially helps keep my bedroom cool. I open the curtains to get this effect and close them as soon as I get up. This keeps the bedroom relatively cool and much easier to sleep or take a nap when the sun's at its zenith.

  • Im having a really bad afternoon again, this morning I was able to get some things done but its just getting hotter as the day progresses and I feel really poorly. As well as pain and skin irritation Im now having problems with asthma, I was recently switched on to a powder version, a combination of steroid and reliever and Im impressed with it so far. Its being rolled out right across the country and I can say its good for me so far, effective and easier to use, no spacer required. The salbutamol has I understand been withdrawn for new patients dx with asthma

  • I'm sorry you are suffering so much in the heat, it's really difficult with it going on so long.

That's really interesting about the new asthma treatment, my daughter has asthma (she developed it after COVID), and she was feeling much worse with it last month when it's not been bothering her at all for the last few years. I think the heat/ pollen/ dryness seems to be a bad mix for asthma.

Do take it extra easy then, a good reason to take it easy with a good book perhaps!
