Not looking forward to extreme heat

It is just about reaching as hot as I can bear, towards the upper 20s. If we get extreme heat for a few days I get through it by thinking that it will be over soon. At the moment next week is predicted to be around 30 all week and often the prediction gets higher as it gets closer.

I like to be outside at least some of each day, but I am not sure there will be much that is bearable.

I am hoping they have got it wrong and it reduces sooner than Monday week.

  • The Met Office says that it will reach 26C in my area on Tuesday, but the BBC says 23C.

My modern home absorbs the heat from the sunlight and retains it, especially upstairs. I do all the opening and closing of windows, blinds, curtains  and doors at the appropriate times but I’m dreading bedtime on Tuesday night.

I’m going to try draping myself in a wet towel in bed and having the fan blow over it. I’ll keep a bucket of water beside the bed to ‘recharge’ the towel during the night.

    Good plan.

It is forecast to be 34 here mid week with 'tropical' nights (deep south of England).

We have a glass conservatory open onto the kitchen which reaches 30+.

I've got used to little sleep during heatwaves.

I can use an air con unit before bed and then a fan and earplugs.

    All the best.

  • 34C is seriously hot!

Have you built in air con?

I have been thinking about getting a portable air con unit. I know they are more expensive to run than the built in systems.

  • all the air con units on my short list are out of stock, unless I want to pay a huge mark up in price, which probably is higher because I’m in N. Ireland.

    Oh dear Confused
