Why all the garish patterns?

I'm wanting to get back into dress making and have been looking at fabrics, the range is small and all but a couple of the challis fabric that I want are in huge garish prints and totally autism unfriendly. Theres very little plain ones and those that there are in a limited range of colours, only one or two that I'd even consider wearing. I don't want to splash out £300 on a new sewing machine if I can't find the right fabric. Not even AI has been able to help, as everywhere it's sent me its all garish patterns.

I'm also a bit wary of trusting it as the website it sent me for ear loops is the unfriendliest site I've ever had the misfortune to use and now I'm having an argument with them about returns.

  • Id never use hobby craft as far as I'm concerened they've decimated the haberdashery and dressmaking sector, everythings bl00dy kits, if I wanted a kit I'd buy one, I want specific fabrics. Sorry I'm cross and thrawn today. But hobbycraft is one of those things I'd like to see banned, like Disney for crimes against Winnie the Poo, only in the case of hobby craft, for ruining any sort of sewing crafts.

We do have a fabric and wool shop, but the bloke who owns and runs it is so horrible that I don't bother anymore, he very snootily told me if I wanted anything I'd have to order a whole roll. He's only interested in patchwork fabric and old ladies getting knitting wool.
