Simple things we take for granted

I had to explain roundabouts to my son yesterday. He hates them and I could never understand his irrational fear. He thought that the traffic was a ‘free for all’ on them. In part I guess he's right, but when I explained that the rule was to give way to your right, It all suddenly made sense Cool Not sure if his fear of roundabouts has been allayed, but it's amazing what we take for granted or pass off as given without realizing the need for greater explaination.

  • Hi, you're absolutely right.  We all take too much for granted sometimes.  We presume things.  We all live inside our own heads but none of us thinks exactly alike.  So, loads of room for error.  There's that saying which goes something like : there are things we know we know, things we know we don't know, things we think we know etc.  There have been many occasions when I've realised I need to explain something much more accurately to my son.  Usually it has alleviated his worries.  Smile
