groups / activities / going places

anyone have problems going out to groups, activities or places in general?

Sometimes I get anxiety going out to places, or get worked up about going somewhere which doesn't help - as a result I either get really overwhelmed and don't enjoy myself as much or end up not going.

I use my techniques I've got from CBT therapy and even if my parents or just one come with me I still find it hard.

This has led to me not going to groups / activities that I actually enjoy when I can get there

I'm still recovering from resigning from work and what led to it, and trying to focus on what I like. It's like I'm finding who I am again without work.

I would love to be able to go to groups, activities and general places on my own, at the moment it seems to much

  • I live alone and don't have any friends in real life. I just have family, but tend to go out alone these days. For a while I went out about once a month when I was doing a project filming waterfalls in parks. I still hope to see some this summer in July. I also used to go the cinema alone or with my mum every now and then. I like to see a human circus around Christmas to called Revel's circus. I have gone away for a day trip myself to Zurich Rhine Falls and I like going to the seaside once a year, sometimes in a group on a coach or alone. This is the Rhine Falls.

i also have been to an autism group in person called the London Autism group which is a charity that meets once a month in some towns. The group was free to attend.

I do get anxiety at times about going out, but I still go mostly.

  • Oh I would love to visit Switzerland but would need to go by train as flying is not for me. I admire you for going alone. Switzerland is a fascinating country and I know people who work for Swiss companies and get to visit. I would need to save up for a trip as it is not a budget destination by any means. I also like the way the Swiss have rules around daily life and consideration for others. It is common in many areas that you cannot disturb people after lunch for example. Oh and whole shop aisles dedicated to Swiss choclate!

  • I do work to as a voluntary OT assistant in an NHS rehab hospital once a week for 2hrs. I hope to get a job to a hospital chaplain volunteer. Induction is this month.I do blogging to which I enjoy.
