groups / activities / going places

anyone have problems going out to groups, activities or places in general?

Sometimes I get anxiety going out to places, or get worked up about going somewhere which doesn't help - as a result I either get really overwhelmed and don't enjoy myself as much or end up not going.

I use my techniques I've got from CBT therapy and even if my parents or just one come with me I still find it hard.

This has led to me not going to groups / activities that I actually enjoy when I can get there

I'm still recovering from resigning from work and what led to it, and trying to focus on what I like. It's like I'm finding who I am again without work.

I would love to be able to go to groups, activities and general places on my own, at the moment it seems to much

  • I can relate to this after taking early retirement from work due to health problems. I have moved in to a retirement complex and am still finding my feet. I keep saying that I'd like to see about going and doing some voluntary work at the Local Food Bank. I think what's holding me back there is it's a commitment to one morning or afternoon per week and I'm probably scared of the commitment as at the moment I have no commitments. I can go to bed when I want and get up when I want and basically do what I want each day. I've also thought about getting involved in the Local Community group putting a little something in to the village that I have recently moved in to. I think a lot of it is Anxiety and the not knowing what's what. I had to force myself to attend the Lunch Club at the retirement complex that I live in. There again I think it was Anxiety that was holding me back but I'm glad I went now cos I met some of my neighbours. I intend to go again sometime but looking at the menu I don't like what they have on offer this week and next week meals wise. I've recently been diagnosed with Autism as well hence me being here.

  • Is there a Thursday Murder Club at your retirement village?

  • I heard tell about a Bingo night when I first moved in here and also monthly quiz nights. I not seen anything since. Maybe I need to have a word with the ILO and find out more. It's having the motivation to go to these things. I might force myself to attend the Market in the Village hall on Saturday. They run it monthly. Might find something I want for the flat or garden and support the local businesses. I keep saying I'm gunna do these things and keep putting it off. At least I do get out and about for walks or day trips on the buses albeit on my own.

  • Maybe you should start one, they have a lot of fun in the books
