being creative with basics [foodstuffs] - what are your favourites?

With rising food costs, I thought I would re-visit my eating habits. I eat meat, poultry or vege dishes but my favourites are basic. For example, versatile baked beans [supermarket unbranded}:

1. with cheese

2. with vinegar

3. with brown sauce [Lidl]

What are you best hacks for eating simply and cheaply? Do you mind eating the same thing for several days?

  • The best ratio nutritional value versus price I find are savoury pies. I have learned to make Ossetian style pies, when filling is wrapped into a dough first and the pie is then stretched to the shape of a baking tin. Filling can vary, in summer I like lighter version of cabbage, feta, spring onions and herbs mix. What's left uneaten goes covered into the fridge, can be warmed up in a microwave and tastes as good as fresh. It takes a while to make yeast dough, prepare and cook filling (where necessary) but for me it's worth it as it makes several meals in one go.
