Wanting to be an author

Hello everyone, I thought I would do a post on here to see if I can make any friends and get some support that I don’t get in the real world.

I have just read a brilliant book called to To Kill A Stone Heart by Mason Dove. He is a UK Author with Autism and Fenton Stone the super sleuth detective in the book also has Autism/Aspergers. I think it’s better than all the other books like The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time etc because the author actually has autism unlike the rest. I think it should sell more books than the others and be made into a film.

It has inspired me to try and write about my life and maybe include my art work. However even though he is a UK author I couldn’t see the book advertised on here or an interview to read about Mason? It made me curious so I checked a few other sites that advertise books and I noticed that most if not all books advertised and promoted on these sites are from people who aren’t autistic or have aspergers. This has made me think twice about becoming an author or not telling anyone I have aspergers so my book could get on these sites.

Why do you think the NAS and other main autism sites don’t promote many books by autistic authors when his book is very good? Would it put you off buying/reading a book if the author has aspergers? Should I just stick to working with computers instead?

  • Hi Johnny

Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting.  I hope that you will find lots of information and support on the forum.  We are a friendly bunch and the more that you post the more that you will get out of the forum.

I have done a quick search for the book that you mention by Mason Dove.  It is available for download on to kindles or ipads.  I am going on holiday tomorrow and will have a look to see if I can download it before I go.  It sounds like a really good read.

Please don't give up on your writing.  There are lots of different ways to get a book published.  I know that a really good way is to start writing a blog.  A number of people have had their work published this way because lots of publishing houses actually see blogs as a great source of work.

I hope that you enjoy using the forum and if there is anything further that you would like to discuss please post.

    All the best
