Universal Credit Shenanigans

I've not had any money coming in for a year or so.

Two months ago I made a universal credit claim at the doctors surgery (on the computer) with the help of the social prescriber. It seemed to work and it said they would be in touch regarding appointments etc.

I never heard anything (and certainly didn't get any money), and I was going to just leave it, but I plucked up the courage to telephone the helpline today. They said I missed an appointment so the claim was closed (although I never got an appointment). Best they could offer to do was to make a new claim - so 40 minutes on the phone later, I now have a new UC claim, and am a bit clearer on what to do regarding sick notes and arranging appointments.

She said I should get a payment on the 19th June.

Wish me luck...

  • I'm pleased to say that despite suffering from bad anxiety (to the extent that I kept needing the toilet), the appointment itself went OK. They've booked me another one for later this week, and I've got an appointment at the doctors' to get a sick note.

I've also written a complaint to my MP about them closing the initial claim. I don't know if anything will come of that but if it does, it'll be an extra few hundred quid.
