How does your garden grow?

Mines doing well, rampant dandelions, I've been dea heading them so I hopefully dont' get more.

The blossom is out on the trees and my currants have loads of flowers, so do the strawberries and raspberries. The rhubarb has bolted, I'm not sure why, maybe the shock of going from winter to spring in a few days?

I planted 5 hyssop plants and a verbascum, the hyssop is good, all the creatures love it, it's perrenial and it can be used as part of a zataar herb mix and it's good for chest problems like COPD. I love plants that serve so many purposes.

I have buds on the hydrangeas already, maybe I'll have two lots of flowering?

I planted some romanesco cauliflowers and they've just started coming up, but I'm still waiting for the kallets I planted at the same time.

  • I have had a bit of a challenge this year. Aphids invaded some of my seedlings which had grown well indoors in the warmth in April. I put those that were partly affected near where ladybirds like to go outside as it seemed in early May there would be no more frosts. The rest I planted in my annual bed. Then it got cold so I rigged up some protection. I also had to grow some more cosmos. 

    The bed got some rain which was good, but it was too cold for growth. Then we had the heat, but with that and watering they have finally started growing. I planted out the new cosmos today. I now have my fingers crossed that the rain to come will benefit them.

    In the rest of the garden I have been busy watering, especially the geraniums as they had started going limp. A bonus is that I seem to have geraniums where I didn't plant them. Perhaps they seeded in the heat last year. The watering has also encouraged the weeds which I was able to start removing last night when it cooled down a bit.

    I am hopeful that by the summer I will have lots of colour.
