Well that just takes the biscuit!

Those who know me, will know that I have a terrible relationship with tech, things randomly crash or dont' work or I can't remember how to do it. I thought I'd have a look at co-pilot to see what everyones raving about, so I clicked on it and nothing happened, nothing at all.

DId I do something wrong or has Ai decided I'm a danger to it?

  • I wonder whether pop ups are blocked on your laptop. This could be why nothing appears after clicking. Try clicking again and look at the top part of the screen where the web address is typed in. Look at the right end of that box and you may see a little symbol or message appear which would indicate pop ups are blocked.

  • I use firefox on my lap top.

I go to the windows icon at the bottom of the screen and click on it then up comes a menu of options, one of them being co-pilot, I hover the arrow over it and click, or even double click, its lights up, recognising that it's been highlighted, but nothing else happens.

I did once get a page of questions I didnt' understand, either the questions or why they were there.

I don't want Chatgp or whatever it is, I'm very confused and am starting to wish I'd never asked as it all get so complicated.

  • It's difficult to advise without being able to see the steps you took to get to copilot. Firstly was this on a phone or a computer? When you say you clicked on it, what exactly do you mean? Had you googled copilot and then clicked on it? Did you type in the web address? Did you have an icon on your screen already that you clicked on? The way you are trying to access it might give clues as to why it didn't work.

  • How are you accessing this website? There are only 4 main browsers, Edge by Microsoft, Chrome by Google, Firefox, and Safari by Apple.

Edge and chrome are two main ones on pcs.

If you are not using an Apple computer, are you using Firefox?

You can use any browser, but some have ai built in now so it is as easy as possible.

  • Use any web browser. Go to https://gemini.google.com

or https://chatgpt.com if yuu want to use ChatGPT.

but free accounts are limited. Depends what you are actually trying to go do with an ai,

  • I don't have chrome and I never use edge as it messes with stuff.

How am I using gemini, I've only come on here?

  • If you want the easiest way, open chrome, on the right of the search window is a button that says AI mode. Click that, then start typing.

You are using Gemini, Google's AI.

If you type in Edge you can also access AI output ( from Copilot). Copilot is also embedded in most MS applications like Excel now.

You can also go to the AI website direct, open the browser and type chatGPT.com and get onto their page. If you typed it in the search window you'll get a link, if you typed it in the address bar at the top you will go direct to their page

It will probably ask you to sign in, this is if you want to have an account and for it to remember the output. If you don't care, click on the X to close this and then do something with the cookies. Then you can use it.

You can do the same thing in the browser with other AIs.

If you had an upmarket phone, like a pixel 9, you would have Gemini app built in (it is an icon you tap on and it opens, then you just use it).

You could also download apps (just little programs) to install on you your phone for free to access other AIs.

I was a bit apprehensive a year ago.

Note that text type questions are almost unlimited, ignore any popups about using your limit or using a lesser model. If you ask it to read documents, or particularly create images, you will find it can only do a few a day.

It is like a dumb assistant with access to a big library. It just does what you say. The more detailed and accurate your question, the better the quality of the output.

Or you can just chat. Start with hello. Then what you did this morning.

  • I always get confused about apps I always think they're things for phones which I don't have. I wasn't chatgp, it was co-pilot, mostly I just want to ask it stupid questions, like why dosent' tech work for me, or why does my fridge moo and baa at me? I don't know what else it could do for me as I've never used it and just thought I'd have a go and see. Maybe it could advise me where to get trousers long enough for me, or what range of bras are available in my size, stuff like that.

I'm using my computer, an elderly acer, it has it on the list of things you might want like media player and that sort of thing. I click on it and it lights up to show it knows its been clicked on then does nothing.

It's probably me not doing it right or its just decided to add itself to the list of things that work for everyone else except me.

  • Artificial Intelligence is a contradiction in terms, IMO, especially considering it's conception finds it's origins in it's total opposite; Natural Stupidity

  • App as in application, I though by what you said it was the ChatGPT app or Microsoft something. Are you using a website? Let me know what specifically you are trying to use and I can help.

do you just want to chat with it or get it to do things for you? If so can you say what things?

    Stevr

  • I just tried again via a different route, it still won't open, I'm wondering if my pooter's to old to run it?

  • Sorry, gbs, but I don't understand what you mean by app, my knowlege of tech is very very basic, I was sort of hoping to have an AI assistant to help me with the things I struggle with, but it seems I might not be able to do that, typical.

Marianne it would be nice to be able to do something normal and not have this constant struggle and feeling of being blocked, I might find I dont' get on with it or don't see what all the fuss is about, it might be that it gives me the same rubbish I didn't ask for as normal search engines, it would be nice to have the choice.

  • Copilot in what app? I’m pretty good in tech having survived as a software engineer for 40 years. Can I help?

  • Firstly I am impressed, as didn't have a clue what it was. Secondly, I would probably have the same experience.

My only experience of AI is when I type a question and the search engine finds some information.
