Toys for autistics

Just a random idea that popped into my head, but I remembered about fidget spinners and how they were designed to help with nuerodiveregents and it got me thinking that maybe there are other toys that are like that. I have a couple of things that I grew up with that I feel fit the bill.

Beyblades. They spin, and of course, spinning to us autistics is something that we've always had an affinity for.

Transformers. I had a couple of these growing up, unfortunately one of them broke, but I still have a couple smaller ones from 2007, but what I always loved about them was the puzzle aspect of transforming them from vehicle to robot mode and vice versa.

Slinkys. They're just an amazing fiddle toy, and watching them go down stairs is quite a spectacle.

Rubix cubes. An engaging puzzle toy, never learned how to solve one because I never owned one.

Bead coasters. Something that has good stim appeal that really helped me growing up.

Would love to hear other people's ideas and experiences!

  • I like big and small natural stones to feel and contemplate. The small polished stones are good for fiddling.

I have a few natural polished stone bracelets which are great as I can put them on when I’m meeting someone and fiddle unobtrusively.

I have a tiger’s eye single decade rosary which I use to do similar actions to the rosary prayers, without the prayers, just because it is relaxing.

  • single decade rosary

I'd forgotten I had one of those and found it comforting.

  • Maybe it’s time to get it out again, if you still have it?

Rosaries are my favourite thing to use, but only if they are made of natural stone.

I still have two five decade rosaries, but one has olive wood beads, the other, plastic or resin beads, so they don’t feels good. Also, the links have a smell that comes off on my fingers and it’s horrible, possibly it’s nickel. My single decade rosary has sterling silver which doesn’t smell.
