Things that go bump in the night!

Or rumble.

No I'm not suffering from a haunting, but my cat Muriel pulling the drawers open under my bed. She does this most nights, she opens one drawer and then pushes open the one on the other side and hops in and out. I wondered what on earth was happening at first, why were the divan drawers always open in the morning, then as I was going to bed one night, Muriel came in and opened the drawers.

When I put the chickens to bed at least one has to have a goodnight cuddle, they want to be picked up and told how nice they are and goodnight. They crouch down, holding their wings back and give little flaps like chicks to tell me they want a cuddle. For creatures without much of a face they're very expressive, if I'm in thier part of the garden I often look down and theres a chicken by my feet staring at me wondering what I'm doing.

Do any of your pets have funny habits?

  • Every day, one of my dogs anticipates her evening meal over an hour before the usual feeding time. She does a “please feed me” routine which usually begins with her pushing up against me and offering her paw, followed by an offering of  two paws. She usually collapses backwards and lies still on her back except for a flick of the left paw every few seconds for the next 5, 10 or 15 minutes. Up she gets and repeats the routine once, twice or however many times it takes to get to meal time.

  • What a performance!

My old greyhounds were what has been termed as "underarm thieves", you'd be sat at the table to eat and when lifting an arm to put food in your mouth, a nose would appear and try and snaffel food from your plate.

  • Haha! Dogs so crafty and their long slim snouts are perfectly shaped for underarm snatching.

Years ago, my mum had a dog that did that. Also, the same dog could tell when mum wasn’t paying attention to him and he would pinch a tissue from her pocket. He used to be delighted when he was “told off” in a mild “not really scolding” voice.
