Amazing new David Attenborough docu - 'Secret Garden'

Have you seen this docu series - 'Secret Garden' ? I think it's his best yet - domestic gardens where the wild life has been filmed over time. It makes me want to set out my old trail camera again. Does anyone know how to connect a trail camera to a pc or laptop? With my cheap Vector trail camera, I have to take out the memory disk, but I've seen ones on TV where you can connect a cable.

Parents
  • I bought a hedghog house last year and covered it in straw, as suggested by the local wildlife trust and over winter some hogs moved in. Looking at it today, they've not only undermined the original house, creating a basement, but also dug underneath my cold frame [a 6' long structure which lies along the side]. So it seems they're creating a nice large basement dwelling - or perhaps sub letting?

On a similar theme, what do people think of the new RSPB directive, not to feel birds during summer? This is Chris Packham's new directive, which I will follow, though this is the opposite of advice given for years by RSPB. What do people think? I get great joy sitting under my veranda watching their antics, especially when the young hatch. There are lots of fields here but not many wild flowers so I wonder if there is enough food?

Children
  • Fearn loved watchng this last night, she tried to break up the fighting foxes, then later woofed at the adult fox, but tried to sniff the cubs.

I don't think this thing about not feeding the birds seeds from feeders is just coming from Chris Packham, but from the RSPB, theres been a terrible drop in numbers of finches due to a paracite in their throats, the adults can pass it on to chicks which then starve. We can still put out worms and suet, just not in the sorts of feeders that attract lots of birds, it might help break the cycle of avian flu too. So whilst I will miss feeding the birds and seeing them on the feeders, I will look forwards to seeing more and healthier birds in the autumn and winter.
