Why am I tempted to bulk buy Mars bars at 2am?

Why is it I fancy an early morning snack and am easily persuaded by bulk-buy Mars bars adverts? I know I shouldn't, because I have type 2 diabetes. But I confess I'm really looking forward to the delivery on Sunday, by my speedy Amazon delivery driver [he is very quiet and nearly as fast as Usain Bolt].

What have you been tempted to buy that you know on a practical level is not good for you or your wallet, yet fulfills a psychological need. Where would we be wthout treats? How is it possible to prevent yourself - or should you not even worry about it?

  • I find this curious. I struggle to buy things, so put stuff off, often for months or years, other than food, obviously. But food doesn't excite me.

The only impulse purchases are sometimes for plants and books, so I limit how often I go to a garden centre or bookshop.

I don't like buying things online, I  am not sure why. But it is getting hard to buy some things any other way. I find buying stuff more stressful than rewarding.

  • Me too Stuart, although I do like food shopping as I like to cook.

Likeng you I tend to impulse buy plants and books, esepcially plants that are out of season and prerenial that I can nurse back to health.

I get into a flap about facing anger at my purchases, I do have a slightly strange taste and style for some peoples tastes, but those who get cross are usually the sort who can walk into any charity shop and come out with a full set of matching clothes that look like they were made for them.

I'm not a fan of buying online either, for one thing you just get a picture of a thing, with no context, in an old fashioned argos catalogue you'd get room set ups so you could get some idea of size and how things fitted together. I don't find the colours of things show true online either and I really don't like that. Also you have no idea of the quality of your purchase until it arrives and sizing is a nightmare, some sites just lie and what you get is nothing like what you thought you were buying.
