I think if I had to choose I'd choose bread, I love bread, I'd miss rice and pasta, potatoes less so as I don't eat many.

The texture of Bread and Butter Pudding is definitely not for me.
I even know someone who makes it with perfectly otherwise lovely Panettone (shudder).
Interesting, Dormouse. Is that a mouthfeel thing? I don't mind the feel of bread and butter pudding, but I used to have real problems with cottage cheese, especially if it was a bit watery. Aren't sensory profiles fascinating!
If we ever meet and are in that situation, Dormouse, I will happily have the portion you don't want and swap you for one of your favourites. #takingonefortheteam
The mix of partly crispy, partly very soggy bread-ish ...almost grainy-textured-ness into its collapse, combo with hot milk-ish aroma of the sauce and then shocking singed bits of sultanas (like sultanas ...except burnt bits).
Heaven forfend the cook incorporated grated nutmeg - just no!
I don't quite understand my vehement objection to the dish as other genetic relatives would happily live on the stuff!
I think waitrose do Longly Farm cottage cheese.
I find milk puddings disguesting.
