Sensory joy

I have just returned from a walk round where I live, and it’s windy and quite bright, I’ve got my sunglasses on, but no headphones today. I just walked past this large hedge covered in dry brown leaves, and it made the most exquisite noise as I passed ( it was the wind rustling the leaves). I felt such joy hearing it so clearly, it really made my day. That’s it really.

  • My major stim is fiddling with small objects - such as pebbles and small mechanical objects like ballpoint pens that click and things like corkscrews that have sliding and rotating elements. I recently bought a jeweller's hammer, very small and entirely made out of stainless steel (I repair old pocket watches as a hobby - fiddling with small mechanical objects again) it has a knurled section on the handle. Just the feel of the weight and balance of the hammer and the knurling gave me deep joy. The Beatle's song, 'Maxwell's Silver Hammer' keeps going through my head every time I pick up the hammer, which is often! Unlike in the song I have no murderous intentions, and the hammer is far too small to do anyone harm.

  • I have an old favourite Staedtler Mars clutch pencil with a super-tactile knurled finger grip area - very good.

The second picture is a clearer view of the grip:
