Has anyone seen any of his recent work thats currently being exhibited? It's fantastic and I can only admire his skill and patience.

He said in an interview that he can sit for 7 hours or so waiting for the right shot, I thought how lucky you are, not only could I not physically sit for that long without moving and/orscreaming with pain, but I don't think I'd feel safe either.

Do women feel less able than men to spend this much time on a hobby, let alone the money for the equipment? Even in a relatively well populated area I wouldn't feel safe, even if it was from someone who'd never left the playground making some stupid comment about the length of my lens, let alone sitting in a hide in a less populated place, I'd be afraid of being robbed at the very least and would certainly fear for my personal safety.

I also wouldn't feel able to spend that much time and money on something just for me, when I was younger, it would be time away from home and what would I be facing when I got back, not having much money and feeling like what spare cash I did have should be spent on home and family.

Is this just me, my PTSD and guilt trips, or do thers feel the same?

  • Oh I didn't know he had an new exhibition, I do love his photography work. We went to a talk he gave once, very enlightening. I also had a calendar of his I used and reused for 3 years. This is quite exciting news, it's it online or real life?

    But on your other points, yeah I would be nervous by myself, I used to love going and sitting in hides birdwatching, but I was always with my husband, I probably wouldn't stay long in a hide otherwise, unless it was somewhere like slimbridge, busier so less relaxing but I'd feel a bit safer? We used to take binoculars and a entry level DSLR with a starter telephoto lens to take turns of. It's hard to say as I've always done things with him, I've not had to do things in my own. (I'm very nervous of going for walk myself as there is a bad person on the village, and I wouldn't like to bump into him on my own. I did go once last year but I did worry about being killed the whole way round which kind of takes the enjoyment of if it. Not catastrophising is tricky.)

    We keep talking about getting into photography again and sharing a camera, but it's pretty costly.
