Share ideas/tips - preparing for higher food and energy bills

This rise in bills is going to happen so we may as well prepare. It would be nice to share ideas on reducing food & energy bills. My 3 tips [but add as many as you like!}

1. shop for simpler meals - traditional favourites. This batch cooking from Lidl 7 [from the Joe Swatch TV programme] has good recipes.

2. I use 4mm flat polycarbonate panels attached with heavy duty velcro on my windows. They can be removed for cleaning but I leave them on all year as they also cut out the heat in summer

3. heavy weight curtains lined with blackout thermal lining [buy lining that has both functions in one] AND draught excluder tape for exterior doors and windows helps block draughts.

  • I've just bought patio apple and pear trees. I already have a blackberry vine, raspberry canes [a very good fruit to grow as they are always expensive] and very prolific and several tubs of strawberries. When people dump green or blue plastic recyling boxes I 'rescue' them and use them to grow salads. I use cut lengths of blue water pipe and insect netting for covers. This works really well in a small space.
