Stones in my shoes

Why does it always feel theres a small alp when it's only a small piece of grit? Yes I know there's lots of nerves in the feet, but it feel out of all proportion to the problem. I don't know why, but I always seem to end up with stones in my shoes or boots, the same as I always end up with mucky splashes up the backs of my legs when I wal in the rain.

  • I think it is because all your weight is on it. The loading on the base of your foot is quite high so it feels out of proportion.

Also you have surprisingly thick skin on your feet, like leather, that spreads the bump of the stone out as it can't mould tightly around it. So it feels bigger.

I saw a program on TV years ago, maybe channel 4, when they dissected a cadavers foot (and a couple of other parts). It was interesting.
