My love of Music

Hi I'm new and I'm hoping to make some new friends. At the moment, I feel like I don't have any friends who have the same music interests as myself.

I think this is because I have strong opiniuns, but I still try to respect other people's. I like to change/expand my music likes/genres. I have had many musical tastes since growing into an adult. I don't like sticking to one particular genre. Music is a passion of mine.

I first listened to pop music as a child, and since then I now listen to Indie Rock.

So some of my fav music is; I like listening to new and old music. Especially The Beatles,Kasabian,Kate Bush,Arctic Monkeys,David Bowie and ELO I also listen to XFM Radio.

I recently like to read graphic novels, I have read Zatanna. I am currently reading The Hobbit. I like to also read biographys, fashion magazines and music related books.

I feel really desperate to make some new friends. Please reply soon.

  • Recently have started getting back in to music, like I did back in my 20s, I used to listen to my record deck far more than I spent watching tv. The last few years I have started going out to a few music gigs, and get great enjoyment from that too. I wish I went to music gigs back in youth, I don't like the big stadium gigs, I try to find smaller events.

My music is very varied late 70s, 80s, some 90s and more recent. Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, XTC, ELO, Bowie, David Sylvian, Ryuchi Sakamoto, Polyphonic Spree, Elbow

New age stuff like Mike Oldfield, Vangelis, JeanMichel Jarre

Odd stuff like Laurie Anderson, Penguin Cafe (Original and New), Wendy Carlos, Kraftwerk

I have even had some interest in Rap, Opera, and Jazz which I often joked about and laughed at in my younger years.

Started to also get in to high-end hifi, which can get expensive. Have just upgraded my speakers and re-disovering a lot of my music collection, new instruments, background melodies. I would recomend get some decent second hand hifi gear, has gone out of fashion, and looks ugly by modern standards, but most modern gear just falls by the wayside.

Have had a big crisis Today, and have ended end with listening to music for nearly four hours. Has helped me to relax a lot.

I started learning Electric Guitar a few years ago, but I lost interest a bit. I am more into experimenting with sounds, and have dabbled around with keyboards and synths, would like to try and combine the two.

  • I like Pop music from the 80s to early 2000s, some R&B, Classical and video game music - instrumental and lyrical.

So songs like Mercy, Mercy Me by Marvin Gaye; I Wanna Know by Joe; Für Elise by Beethoven; and Grand Finale from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.

  • Hi Zatanna, I am your friend! Music is also very important to me, and it saves me form the nasty real world out there.

Maybe you would like new inspiration to take you to "another place" well, do you know ATB, Ryan Farish, Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations? Philip Glass? Mike Oldfield's Ommadawn?

I think New Order's old stuff is one of the best Indie music bands ever.

    You are not alone!

  • I agree with you on David Bowie – I like the way he constantly re-invents himself, he's really unique! And the rest of your list sounds pretty awesome as well. Joy Division are timeless of course. And I was surprised that anyone still remembers Mansun, they were pretty underrated I think.

I've always been quite fascinated by typefaces and the shape of letters, even as a kid. So I think it was quite logical for me to become a professional graphic designer ;-)

  • I believe Bowie is the greast songwriter Britain produced; even better than Lennon, but that's just me. :)

I can do a bit of basic Graphic Design, nothing intricate but good enough to design freelance. (If I could just get a break, don't have the dough for Creative Suite so use GIMP and Inkscape)

  • My favourites are: Joy Division, Pink Floyd, Oasis, Doves, Elbow, Radiohead, U2, Mansun, The Beatles, The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Magazine and Mogwai.

  • I love music as well. It's an important part of my life. I have a vast record collection that touches on various eras and decades. Stuff like Bowie, New Order, Elbow, Kraftwerk, Stone Roses to name but a few...

My music obsession got me into my other obsession of graphics and design as well – I always loved studying record covers and that taught me a lot about visual aesthetics :-)

  • I havn't met anyone on the forum like me yet, do you know anywhere else I can talk to people. thank you for your help.

  • Hello recombinantsocks

First of all your guessing skills are great!, I am a female and I am nineteen. I am young but I do like old and new music, as I said previously I like Indie music.

Perhaps you'd like to tell us a bit more about yourself - I'm guessing your female and teens or twenties but my guesswork is often frankly hopeless!

  • Thank you for your suggestion, it's not something I have heard of before. Although it was interesting. But It's not my cup of tea.

    Thanks Zatanna
