What news sources do you trust?

After the news coverage about the US action in Venezuala I realised how many news outlets that I thought were reasonably impartial are actually influenced by the "official" line rather than investigative journalism.

Does anyone have recommendations on a news source which does not have any strong political affiliation or is influenced by outside forces?

Thanks.

  • I don’t trust any news source on its own as they all bring bias and can be mistaken or misinformed.

I tend to read/watch/listen to news from the BBC, Channel 4, The Guardian, The Times, The Rest is Politics Podcast or YouTube, The Irish Times, Al-Jazeera, The New York Times. I read the newspapers free of charge online from the public library so I scan the main stories pretty quickly and can investigate something of interest further and wider as required. If a particular aspect or point in a story  captures my attention, I search online for accounts that might discuss this.

it amazes me how most of the British news repeats the same thing across their TV channels/publicstions. I think they copy, cut & paste each other’s stories. Foreign newspapers are often much more diverse and report things of massive importance that rarely make British headlines. even the New York Times has some great news and interesting accounts, although it generally is reliable, it occasionally lets itself down.

Editor’s Note: According to PolitiFact, a nonprofit, independent fact-checking site, many of the sources on this list feature information and punditry that are false or based on lies. Yet they still claim to be news sources, and that is how people see them. It is not the purpose of this list to judge the truthfulness of any particular news source; the goal is to find out which ones readers find most trustworthy. Trust is based on many factors, including bias and truthfulness. We leave it up to you to decide which sources you trust, based on whatever factors are meaningful to you.
