I've been catching up on my sleep.

I don't have a camera or anyway of putting photos up or taking photos in general, I also lack the tech skills to upload them, sorry.

I’m guessing you woke up late today? It’s worth the sleep in on new year. If you don’t get on with what you’ve bought? If it was a present you didn’t buy it so you would just enjoy or get rid maybe…Surely there is a hygiene policy the same as underwear as once you use it there is no return? Did you purchase it new or was it pre owned / taken ?  Who did you get the present from btw?

I had feather pillows I share with my partner - his choice . I normally buy anti allergy but firm however I do roll onto his in the night. However he has been changing his pillows up recently and has been through a few. I don’t think he’s sticking to one style he said he’s going to continue with variety because he gets bored easily and he likes his head “cupped” shall we say and he likes my pillow fairly often still. Some people just don’t know what they like I guess. We share a quiet mattress we bought nothing complicated but could probably afford an upgrade together.

I think I have the same mattress to you tbh, it’s not an exclusive brand and that was the problem with it then and now. It fails after a while. I’m still sleeping on it and will be using it for a couple of months and potentially after I move 

It's great to read about the effect your new mattress has had on you. A decent mattress can make the world of difference as to how well one sleeps.

I could do with getting myself a new mattress, as I am all too familiar with the sound and sensation of creaking joints, and the accompanying pain.

It's a pocket sprung one with some kind of topper, I have a topper made of duvel filling stuff that I've put on top of it, but I think I may need a slightly thicker as I can feel the springs.

Personally I wouldn't have latex as I'm allergic to it and even though it's all suposed to be safely covered away, I still wouldn't risk it.

I'd much prefer to go and try some out before buying, but as this was a present I couldn't. What does confuse me though is all these companies that offer a refund if you don't get on with what you've bought, mattresses come shrink wrapped and compressed, how are you supposed to wrap it up, or do they come and collect it?

It took me a while to drop off last night, but I didn't wake up with sore hips and shoulders, I agree with you about pillows, I prefer feather ones too, what sort have you got? Mine came from Dunelm and they don't seem to have as many feathers in as the last pair I bought. 

To add to the information, Which ranks top mattresses in different ways, eg, ‘best for side sleepers’, best for back sleepers’, ‘best brand overall’, ‘best hybrid mattress’, ‘best memory foam mattress’, best ‘pocket sprung mattress’. I can post images of review in any of these categories if it is helpful.

What kind of mattress did you get? I need to order one but dubious about not trying it out first because there are so many options these days… pocket spring, memory foam, latex etc 

It was an Eve Premium Hybrid mattress. 

I bought it before the company went into administration. I see the ‘Eve’ brand has been taken over by Bensons for Beds and Which says that the test results they show aren’t directly comparable to the mattress I would have bought.

If I am being picky, the mattress feel coolish when I get into bed, but it sometimes feels a bit warm for me after a few hours but is fine if I push my duvet down the bed a bit.

I found it very heavy to manoeuvre in my own, but the delivery people put it in place on my bed for me.

This is just a section of some of the details from Which. There are other brands and models that have better reviews than Eve. I can post the details and comparisons showing pros and cons with test scores for each type if you are interested. I am concerned that too many photos might break the thread, so I wonder would it be better to try this in a new thread?

I changed my mattress about three years ago for a hybrid pocket spring/memory foam ‘Which’ Best Buy, and it is so much better for the joints.

i have always had bother getting comfortable pillows. After years of using different types of pillows I have recently reverted to feather and down pillows. They are a vast improvement as my head doesn’t slip off them and I don’t wake up with a stiff neck. Having said that, I haven’t slept well for years and I crave a good night’s sleep.

I reckon I had about 2 nights a year when I woke up feeling good, for the last 35 years. (I might have finally partially fixed that.)

So I know how cool waking up feeling good feels.

I hope it lasts.
