new diagnosis advice required please

Hi i have an 11 year old boy recently diagnosed with autism he hasn't got the best social skills and i would like him to attend clubs ir groups to help him in this area any suggestions would be more than welcome thanks xx

  • Hi - are there any parents groups/charities etc in your area which have a connection with autism?  As your son's recently been diagnosed you may want to consider meeting parents in the same position + also your son cd do some socialising in an environment that understood the difficulties.  Whatever you decide please check out things in detail 1st as it does need to be autism-friendly enough for him to get something positive out of it.  If he likes ponies/horses you cd enquire with Riding for the Disabled - some children + adults get a lot out of it.  If your son has a particularly strong interest it goes without saying that that's the area to concentrate on.  Good luck.

  • Its difficult. There are a number of threads regarding inclusion in communual recreational activity Under "hobbies and interests" and "education". If he wants to do an activity, just take him along, and be prepared to fight for your sons right to attend...
