Please share your 'frustrations of Christmas' - the funny side of things gone wrong

I'm writing after a few red wines and haven't had alcohol in ages, so apologies if this is not coherent! What are your [humorous] frustrations connected with Christmas? Here's one of mine.

Several years ago I bought a heavy and realistic, 7' artificial tree. It was late summer so the price was reduced by 50%. In October I got it out of the loft for a test run, slipped off the ladder and it dropped on my foot. The hospital sent a paramedic, who lent me crutches, bound up my foot then remarked I was their first Christmas accident of the year. [I never knew they recorded such things]. The next year I got it down from the loft in late November but  heaving it onto the stand the bottom fell off - the pointy stem of the middle hit my foot; the one I'd injured before. The hospital sent a paramedic - the same one. He said I'd achieved 'first Christmas injury' again - but if I did the same next year he would refuse to attend! Last year I gave it to the Air Ambulance for their reception. This year I couldn't heave my 4' live tree out of its outdoor pot, so I bought a new 3' live-tree-in-a-pot - the last one in the shop. Thankfully, I got it home and onto my table without further glitches!

  • Less humorous than sad and ironic, but:

Yesterday I went to my in-laws extended family Christmas celebration and my wife’s aunt gave me a trio of dog photo frames and a dog ornament.

~ We haven’t had a dog for years since our family dog bit my daughter and we sadly had to send him to a greyhound sanctuary. ~

Worst part is that they know this, but probably forgot. So I had to smile and say “Oh, thank you!” through gritted teeth.

BUT THEN even if they did forget my Autistic daughter announced loudly and proudly “WE USED TO HAVE A DOG BUT HE BIT ME!“ lol
