I'd often wondered what this was about, though I've 'dinged' for decades without thinking about it. This is the answer I got from google AI100

  • Oh I can hear it as soon as I read it, a musical note, ting ting. (And the occasionally 3 chimes)

    I have both tea and coffee black with no additives, and we have thermal camping mugs during the day and they don't make the right noise.

    China with tea makes the most beautiful delicate sound, then just holding the hot cup and savouring the heat. Very relaxing.
