Great news! There's a good piece about her in the Guardian. Apparently Charlotte Hollinshead was told Nnena could never break into the art world because she is incapable of articulating her artistic practice. Her response? Nnena 'couldn't give a toss about the art world' . Good for her!
That’s marvellous!
It’s good that the BBC included the words of someone who worked with the artist.
Charlotte Hollinshead stated:
"This is a major, major moment for a lot of people. It's seismic. It's broken a very stubborn glass ceiling.”’
Yep Nnena Kalu is a Turner prize winner and her reaction is "whatever"... splendid!
Now if only I could learn to exercise that philosophy...
She accepted the honour while wearing a rosette bearing her photo and the words: "Idol, legend, winner, whatever."
She sounds amazing! Thanks for pointing out her work, recognised with a proper award for her ability, not just given a 'special' prize for her disability.
