What do I want for xmas?

New knees, but nobody seems to be able to get me those. I never know what I want for xmas and birthdays, it always feels like a yawning gap that I might fall into.

The only things I've asked for are the usual stuff like body lotion and handcream, but I can't think of anythng else, or not that anyone is going to actually buy me.

Suggestions welcome, but what about you lot, what do you want and do you think you have any chance of getting it?

  • World peace, climate change action. DWP that supports people ( I know but I can wish). A heated workshop with a ramp to save me shivering outside when trying to fit a starter motor. Another Land Rover and a Route Master please!

  • Solid gold coins that I can convert into money when needed.

  • A bottle of single malt used to be a good present for me, but I don't drink anymore.

My skin has become very sensitive, so no smellies.

I've got all the kitchen and garden stuff I need.

    I've got slippers

    I hardly ever wear jewelery.

I could do with a new mattress, but if I ask for that I will be told no as it's to big to wrap.

  • If I have the funds after Christmas I'm thinking I might buy myself an air dryer, air filters and respirator for my compressor so that I can spray 2K paint and breath the air from the compressor safely - breathing in fumes from 2k paint can cause permanent severe asthma even from breathing a tiny amount so the only safe way of using it is with an air supply.  Like most projects I work on that are potentially dangerous I like to work to HSE standards even though they don't legally apply when you are working on a personal project at home.  Being able to use 2K paint will mean I'll be able to do colour matching and then apply a 2k clear coat on my van where I've made repairs hopefully making any work invisible.

  • The only thing I want is the thing I didn't know I needed, but that seems a big ask! If people ask me what I want, I have no idea. Book tokens are the only thing I can ever think of. A bottle of wine used to be a good bet,but I don't really drink much any more.

I hate receiving the kind of landfill present that someone has clearly bought because they couldn't think of anything.

My siblings and I do a secret Santa type thing, including our wives and husband to avoid the necessity to buy everyone a present. Cuts four gifts down to one.

  • I made lots of his recipes, it taught me a lot about how to layer flavours and some of the more technical aspects of cooking.

  • Well seeing as both my birthday and Christmas are coming this is where I get all the presents to unwrap all in one month lol!

I have too much to list but I want Luigi mansion 2 remastered, Mario and Luigi brother ship (both for the switch), Kirby’s extra epic yarn, Kirby’s battle royal (both for 3ds) and even some of the older games originally made for the ds, wii and wii u. I think I’ll get Luigi mansion 2 though as my mum said it’s tradition to buy me at least one game for xmas. Of course I also like to have the anti ageing stuff and good hair care products as well.

Probably won’t get as much for my birthday but I’m guessing maybe some little Greek figurines for my flat or my £25 Nintendo gift card, I would also like more jewellery lol.

More often or not I tend to buy what I want throughout the year so I tend to have surprises when I open my presents and tbh that’s the exciting part!

  • I don't like gifts and they hardly ever make me happy. Only I know what and when I want. The only thing I would like to have is a week holiday in solitude. So I would have time for myself, to draw some more pictures on my new laptop and built something out of magnets I bought myself. And write my new story about aliens, where I already prepared calculations for, the plot is ready, but I have no time and someone interrupting me makes me really angry. Sometimes even aggressive.

  • I definitely have a chance of getting it because I do the buying. For many years I have bought my own Christmas presents and my parents reimburse me. It might sound a bit odd or boring but it works well. One less job for them to do and it makes sure I can get things that I know I like, know fit etc and it takes some of the unknown out of Christmas for me. I generally go for things like clothes unless there's something I particularly want that year. If I really can't think of anything, they'll give me the money instead.

  • Aaah..we only knew what we knew at the time, but I feel the same way sometimes, it would have been useful to explain things to my younger self.

  • I would send it back around 30 years to tell myself about masking, burnout and other things. I could have understood myself better and maybe had a different less lonely life and be looking forward to Christmas more.

  • I

It's part of age; you have most of what you want or can afford. You also buy what you need when you need it and don't wait. That only leaves smaller consumable items

I was thinking the same really. You buy things when you need them.

What would the message say, if you don't mind me asking.

    I can't think of anything.

I'll buy a new fence in January I think, but it's not really a present.

I'd like a time machine to send a message back to myself, but that seems bit much to ask.

  • Agreed!!

I can't say I ever attempted to cook anything he made, but he was just so entertaining so charismatic.

  • No, I was thinking about it but then you put up your list, so I didn't bother, just put in about my cooking hero, the late, great Keith Floyd

  • The way to get what you want is buy it yourself Laughing. I have a wind-up radio and a fleece coat arriving in the next few days.

I was trying to find the thread where you were going to put a new one about cookery and cookery books - I would like this too! It's a nice time of year to chat about cooking.
