Two become One

Just seventy minutes of Daylight Savings left; for 2025.

It was eventful, to say the least. The Sublime, Good Summer, and the Ridiculous, Weather warnings during September and October.

My devices change time automatically. And I sorted out my Elvis Clock; in advance. Just the Central Heating Meter, and Car Dashboard, to sort out.

  • I was watching the clock on my computer, and found it a somewhat strange experience to watch it change from 01:59:59 to 01:00:00, instead of 02:00:00.

For years I always seemed to forget when it was that the clocks changed... until several years ago when it suddenly got lodged in my brain that it always the last Sunday in October when the clocks go back, and the last Sunday in March when the clocks go forward.

  • We use the same weekends as the other EU countries.

But the US uses different weekends. 2nd in March and 1st in Nov. It causes confusion.

Other countries may also not be aligned.

It annoys me though that we put it back 7 weeks before the shortest day but not forwards till 13 weeks after the shortest day.  It should be symmetrical. The dates are illogical.

That's been annoying me for ages too - we get 5 months of GMT then 7 months of BST. I think that BST should start the last Sunday in April.

However, what annoys me more is the fact we have to change it at all. If I had my way we would stay on GMT all year.
