I love Jaffa Cakes
Do you love Jaffa Cakes? If so,
What kind do you like? Do you have a favourite flavour or a certain brand you like?

Wow this is bringing me back to when I was like 4. My nan (dad’s mum) used to buy me Jaffa cakes every time I visited her. I always had the original flavours I think but when she died I seemed to go off them, not because she died but because I realised they weren’t crunchy and they seemed to be more sweet than what I was used to. I was 7 when I went off them but I might have to try them again now I’ve seen this post.
My grandad in my dads side used to give us either oreos, mini cheddars or cheese sandwhiches after we did his shopping for him(he was house bound) always served wirh a tumbler glass of milk
and I can 100 percent say cheddars are close to what they used to be but oreos aren’t the same anymore
Aw sorry to hear about your grandad being house bound! It’s very kind of you to have helped him like that!
Yeah I also love mini cheddars! They haven’t changed at all but I’ve never had oreos so I won’t know what they taste like. I have heard a lot of sweets or chocolates had their recipes altered but I don’t really know why. Malteasers don’t seem to be as tasty as they used to be

Ahh ok well that explains everything! If I’m honest I’d prefer the more sugar than chocolate lol
I was always able to taste the difference between UK and US m&m
US chocolate has typically less than half the cocoa solids compared to UK chocolate and much more sugar to compensate, making it lighter and sweeter (and less, well, chocolaty).
Ahh well that makes sense now. The rules and regulations can be rather confusing and of course all the costs don’t help. It’s a shame that it’s going this way. Don’t get me wrong I still like Maltesers but they just don’t seem as tasty compared to years ago. I was always able to taste the difference between UK and US m&m but I haven’t been to US for years now so I couldn’t really say. I thought the Brits were meant to have the sweater and tastier sweets but guess not lol. It could just be my taste buds though haha

It is a mix of cost savings (the biggest driver) and regulation.
I've noticed a lot of my favourite chocolate in the UK has dropped from 33% cocoa solids to 28% - in part due to the rising cost of the raw cocoa.
Other brands have had to change some flavourings due to some additives being banned.
I notice a lot of american confectionary is now banned because they use colourings and addatives that are now banned in the UK and EU.
