Plannning for Christmas

I like planning everything to keep from boredom or excessive negative thinking, as I live alone.  Last year I bought a half-price Tesco Christmas tree with roots (newly in - so I don't know why they half-priced them, at £12). I'm happy to say the tree has put on 25mm (1" in old money). I water it regularly, feed occasionally with bonsai food. It looks great with ferns and primula in a damp part of the garden. I planted it out in a new air pruner pot (www.futuregarden.co.uk/air-pot-air-pruning-plant-pots ) . I'inside a grey container. I'll bring it indoors a couple of days before Christmas. It will need a slightly larger pot than the red plastic it came in. I would love to hear any tips for enjoying Christmas. I like to keep mine going until Candlemas (2 Feb) because you get treats for longer that way :-)

I enjoy sitting in a hammock in the shade (low 30C outside) with a fan providing some breeze, reading a good book with a bucket of ice and beers on the side.

One of the many advantages on being in Brazil where Dec 25 is mid summer.

Restaurants are mostly open on Christmas day too so no problem if you don't want to cook - roast turkey or beef is available everywhere.

I normally make a Christmas tree from scraps of wood from my construction projects and any other materials that feel right - I'll take a picture of this years one when it is ready.

  • Yes, post it online! Sounds like a wonderful way of celebrating in the heat!
