Many people find polytheism strange, I don't, I find it refreshing, what I don't understand is why so many people gave it up for montheism?

Is it ok if I ask what polytheism means? I’ve tried to google it but I don’t really understand the answers. I’m embarrassed to ask this I’ll admit

If you look at the different religions around the world there are many who have multiple gods in their pantheons and some worship spirits more than gods, so the nature of what a deity is can be flexible.
