Can't seem to find any kind of autism related social/support groups in my area, It would be nice to find people here to talk too

As per my title, after a few years of attempting to look for support groups of some kind, I can't seem to find any at all, at least not in my area. For this reason I have joined here in the hope of finding people to speak too, I'm very new here and made my introductory post here last week, I am happy to speak via direct message. I'm very suprised at what little support there seems to be for autistic adults in my area, it would be nice to speak to anyone here who is in the same position, or who is just happy to talk

  • tbh regardless of the area there is a lack of support groups and just autistic groups! country wide ( since i found out separating people in workplace/clubs/groups is discrimination, which is so silly! ) well it's what it feels like at-least, so online seems to always be the best bet for making friends with similar minds and interests ( we're all so unique )

I looked up you like Cars/retro gaming - I'm a game dev solo, all free games on itch, have you ever though about learning to program/ make your own games? Blender is a awesome tool to learn to design your own Cars! CAD for designing your own engines, 3D printers to make model.

if any of the above peeks your interest we can arrange a chat sometime and see if we connect, though due to the possible ADHD i tend to overwhelm everyone and with C-PTSD struggle to keep in contact with people!

  • Hey, thanks for your reply, and yes, there doesn't seem to be any kind of existing autism support groups, the only ones I have seen are for autistic children, or parents of autistic children, but absolutely nothing for adults on the spectrum. I came here as I was hoping this could be the nearest thing in the absence of any real life face to face groups.

Re games, that thought has never crossed my mind, although I did have a period during my teenage years of liking the idea of making my own games, I admit my IT skills aren't amazing, just average hehe. The car design tool sounds quite cool, I would be up for knowing a little more about that

I'm happy to chat whenever its okay, I'm quite open to meeting new people, something I very much couldn't say a few years ago! but I think with my age this is getting better, so am happy to talk
