So I ordered a thing who remembers these

I ordered a cd single off the Olivia Rodrigo website of vampire i have the tape single but the cd/45 versions contain the demo which is not in the tape ik guessing for cost reasons?

im really getting back into singles the last ones I had where 45s but I like them on all formats they just feel speical somehow

  • I don't think I have had a physical media of music since 2006 and even then they were getting so outdated that nobody wanted them and hundreds of CDs ended up in the bin.

With vinyl I never liked the static, the risk of scratches and the manual interaction needed for changing records so it was great when you could build playlists on your computer instead. Then I could concentrate on enjoying the music and not all the faffing around.

Singles never seemed good value to me mind you. I think the last one I bought was in the early 80s. I guess I didn't feel a need to be part of the "happening" of the song in the charts and just wanted to make my money go further but getting an album instead.

The only things that felt special from my record buying days were the picture disks - I collected quite a lot of these but sold them all when moving country. These days they just feel like "things" taking up space when I can have a much more streamlined life.

Even my library of books has reached capacity (30 linear meters of books) and I'm starting to sell off the ones I've read or started and given up on. I could just get the digital version of these but I do enjoy the tactile element of reading a book when it takes dozens of hours to read some.

I guess with time these will all dissapear as well and I'll be able to downsize my flat again.
